Colonization, Disease, Museums: A Global Story

 

The more commonly used terms “Old World” and “New World” are Eurocentric, and so, throughout this essay, unless the original terms appear in citations, the terms “Afro-Eurasia” or will be used in place of  “Old World,” and “the Americas” will be used in place of  “New World.” Some have used the terms “eastern hemisphere” and “western hemisphere” in place of “Old” and “New” world, but here again, that is based on the Greenwich meridian, again, privileging Eurocentric concepts.
